All about Brain

Fun game: Brain parts game

please click the link above before reading. and please, use your headphone para marinig nyo yung names.

4 Parts of the BRAIN

1. Cerebrum or Cerebral Cortex

Cerebral Cortex is responsible for:

• thinking and learning • creativity • five senses • memory and emotion • problem-solving • decisions

Cerebrum has four parts (parts are called lobe)

* Frontal Lobe- associated with reasoning, planning, parts of speech, movement, emotions, and problem solving
* Parietal Lobe- associated with movement, orientation, recognition, perception of stimuli
* Occipital Lobe- associated with visual processing
* Temporal Lobe- associated with perception and recognition of auditory stimuli, memory, and speech

2. Limbic system

Responsible for emotion

The limbic system, often referred to as the "emotional brain", is found buried within the cerebrum.

limbic system has four parts:

* Thalamus
* Hypothalamus
* Amygdala
* Hippocampus - it stores and processes memories, helps find memories and affects emotions.

3. Cerebellum

Responsible for movement, balancing and posture.
Your cerebellum is a busy switching station. It receives messages from most of the muscles in your body. It communicates with the other parts of the brain, and then sends messages about movement and balance back to your body.

4. Brain Stem

Underneath the limbic system is the brain stem. This structure is responsible for basic vital life functions such as breathing, heartbeat, and blood pressure. Scientists say that this is the "simplest" part of human brains because animals' entire brains, such as reptiles (who appear early on the evolutionary scale) resemble our brain stem.

Brain is a part of Nervous System.

The nervous system is divided into two parts called

• Central Nervous System = Brain + Spinal Cord

• Peripheral Nervous System = Nerves to rest of body

See animated picture: http://morphonix.com/software/education/science/brain/game/specimens/images/nervous_system.gif

• Sensory nerves carry messages from the body to the brain

• Motor nerves carry messages from the brain to the body

Know about neurons

Neuron Parts:

• Soma: body of the cell

• Dendrites: receive messages

• Axon: sends messages

A Neurons has three main parts. The cell body, or soma, is a neuron's main cellular space. The soma houses the nucleus, in which the neuron's main genetic information can be found. The axon sends messages to other neurons. The dendrites receive messages from other neurons.

Neurotransmitters

They are chemical signals that neurons use to talk to each other, which is what makes your brain work. Neurotransmitters are the messengers that travel between one brain cell and another. They help determine how you feel, think and act.
